The Catedral Metropolitana is the old-centre landmark most visitors pass sooner or later, standing beside Praça XV de Novembro rather than out on the beach side of Florianópolis. Its pale facade and twin towers make a useful orientation point in the downtown grid.
Step inside if the doors are open. The cathedral is not grand in the European sense, but it gives the island capital a piece of civic depth: colonial-era devotion, state institutions, and everyday city life all meet around this square.
