Ribeirao da Ilha

A historic Azorean fishing district in southern Florianopolis, known for oyster farms and pastel houses.

Ribeirao da Ilha is one of the best places in Florianopolis to feel the island's Azorean inheritance. The waterfront village has pastel colonial houses, a slow road along the bay, small churches, fishing boats, and oyster farms that make it feel quite different from the surf beaches on the east coast.

Come hungry and unhurried. The district is famous for oysters and seafood restaurants, but the setting matters as much as the meal: calm water, hills across the bay, and a pace that still feels tied to the old fishing settlement. It is a strong counterweight to the island's beach-party image.
