The restaurant at Cara Lodge, a beautifully preserved 1840s colonial guesthouse on Quamina Street, is one of the most atmospheric places in Georgetown for dinner. The dining room and verandah sit in the original wooden building, lit by candles, with high ceilings and slow-turning fans. The menu mixes Guyanese specialities with international dishes — pepperpot, curries, grilled fish, and pasta.
Service is unhurried and the wine list is short but reasonable. Even if you are not staying at the hotel, it is worth booking for dinner just to experience the colonial atmosphere. Weekend evenings sometimes feature live music.
