The Couvent d'Afrique is a hilltop monastery and school at the northern end of Algiers, close to Notre Dame d'Afrique. The adjacent lookout point offers one of the most sweeping panoramas over the city and the Bay of Algiers. From here the full scale of the natural amphitheatre is clear: the hills curving around the bay, the white buildings cascading to the port, and beyond the Mediterranean horizon.
The views are at their best in clear weather — in winter and spring the visibility can extend for many kilometres. The site is open at all times and the access road is navigable by car. The Couvent itself is a working religious institution; access is limited to the exterior and viewpoint area.
