Gezira Center for Modern Art holds a large collection of Egyptian painting and sculpture, tracing the country's modern art movement from early 20th-century pioneers into contemporary work. It is a useful counterpoint to Cairo's ancient monuments, showing how Egyptian artists have argued with modernity in their own visual language.
