Jamestown Lighthouse

1930s British lighthouse with rooftop views over colonial Accra

A red-and-white tower built by the British in the 1930s, sitting in the heart of the old Ga fishing quarter. For a small fee a caretaker will let you climb to the top, where the view takes in the colonial-era harbour, the cluster of brightly painted pirogues on the beach below, and the chaotic roofs of one of Accra's most photogenic neighbourhoods. Combine it with a wander through the surrounding lanes.
