Jubilee House

Ghana's presidential palace, completed in 2008 and visible from the Ring Road

The seat of Ghana's presidency, completed in 2008 with Chinese assistance and officially inaugurated by President Kufuor. For most of Ghana's post-independence history the seat of government was the Osu Castle on the seafront; the move to Jubilee House in 2013 ended four decades of governance from a building that had also served as a slave-trading fort, a history that made the symbolism uncomfortable. The building is named for Ghana's golden jubilee of independence.

The compound is not open to visitors, but the approach along the Ring Road gives a clear view of the gates and the flag flying above the complex. Worth combining with a visit to Osu Castle a few minutes' drive away — together they tell a compact story of Ghanaian governance from colonial fort to modern republic.
