The Birla Mandir overlooks Hussain Sagar from the top of Kala Pahad, its twin hillock Naubat Pahad rising beside it. Built over a decade by the Birla Foundation and completed in 1976, the temple is carved entirely from white Rajasthani marble and dedicated to Lord Venkateshwara. It is best seen at dusk, when the whole structure is floodlit and the city lights come on around the lake below.
