Paldi is the southwestern district of Ahmedabad, just below Ellisbridge, and is the city's modernist architecture trail. The Sanskar Kendra (Le Corbusier, 1957), the Sangath studio of Balkrishna Doshi (1981, where Doshi worked until his death in 2023), the National Institute of Design campus by Gautam Sarabhai, and the Tagore Hall are all within walking distance. The district also contains the Vasna Barrage, which dams the Sabarmati for the riverfront.
The neighbourhood is residential and quiet, with a few good cafes and the Vasna Cremation Ground, designed by Doshi in the 1980s and now considered one of his masterpieces.
