Sanskar Kendra Museum

Le Corbusier-designed city museum in Paldi

The Sanskar Kendra, completed in 1957, is one of three buildings Le Corbusier designed in Ahmedabad and the only one open to the public. The plan is a hollow concrete square raised on pilotis — Corbusier's standard 'machine for living', here a machine for looking at the city's past. The museum's history-of-Ahmedabad displays are dated and the building itself is more interesting than the contents, but the spiralling internal ramp and the play of light through the louvre walls are worth the visit on their own.

Free entry. The Sankheda lacquerware furniture on the second floor is the highlight. Closed Wednesdays.
