The Museum of Art and Photography (MAP) opened in 2023 and is the newest major cultural institution in Bangalore. The collection runs to some 60,000 objects spanning South Asian art across several centuries — textiles, photography, decorative arts, traditional crafts, and contemporary pieces. The building, a striking contemporary structure near Cubbon Park, was designed to be the city's answer to a major international art museum, and it largely succeeds.
MAP is the most ambitious new museum in Bangalore in decades, and a serious effort to bring South Asian visual culture into a modern curatorial framework. The photography collection is particularly strong. Admission is charged, the cafe is good, and the building is air-conditioned — all practical advantages in a city with Bangalore's climate. Worth half a day if you have any interest in art.
