The Chini ka Rauza is the tomb of Afzal Khan Shirazi, a Persian-born scholar and finance minister to Shah Jahan, who died in Lahore in 1639. The building's name — "China Tomb" — comes from the brilliant glazed tilework (kashi kari) that once covered its entire exterior. Most of the tiles have fallen away, but the surviving fragments hint at how astonishing the original must have looked.
It is a short walk from I'timad-ud-Daulah on the same eastern bank of the Yamuna. Few people visit; it is a quiet, slightly melancholy spot among the ruins of other Mughal monuments. The keeper will usually let you climb up to the terrace for a small tip.
