Mariam's Tomb is the red-sandstone mausoleum of Mariam-uz-Zamani, the Rajput wife of Emperor Akbar and mother of Jahangir. It stands near Sikandra, away from Agra's busiest circuit, and has a restrained dignity that contrasts with the city's more famous monuments.
The building reuses and transforms an earlier garden pavilion, which gives it a layered feel. Visit it with Akbar's Tomb nearby; together they show the Mughal suburbs of Agra beyond the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.
