The tomb of Akbar's senior Hindu Rajput wife — Mariam-uz-Zamani, mother of the emperor Jahangir — sits just south of Akbar's own mausoleum at Sikandra. The building reuses an earlier Lodi-era pavilion that was renovated to serve as her tomb after she died in 1623.
It is unspectacular compared with the Mughal showpieces nearby, but the carved stone gateway and the elegant proportions of the central pavilion make a peaceful contrast with the bustle around Akbar's Tomb a few hundred metres away. Often combined with the Sikandra visit.
