Musamman Burj

The Musamman Burj is the octagonal marble tower at the eastern corner of Agra Fort, with a perfect view of the Taj Mahal two kilometres downstream. Shah Jahan built it as a private chamber for his wife Mumtaz Mahal; he ended his own life imprisoned in the same room, allowed by his son Aurangzeb only this one consolation — the sight of his wife's tomb.

The marble inlay, jali screens, and small reflecting pool are some of the most delicate work in the whole fort. Visit late in the afternoon when the sun catches the Taj from the right angle.
