Sajjad, a middle-class residential and shopping neighbourhood three kilometres west of the shrine, is where Mashhadi families live, eat, and shop. The Sajjad Boulevard is lined with cafés, restaurants, and a string of upmarket boutiques — the closest thing in the city to a fashionable urban quarter.
A useful place to base yourself if you want a quieter night than the shrine quarter. Several of the better hotels and restaurants are here.
