One of the older courtyards inside the Imam Reza Shrine complex, Sahn-e Azadi ("Freedom Courtyard") dates in its present form from the Qajar period. The tilework on the surrounding porticos and the slender minarets above are particularly fine examples of late 19th-century Persian decoration.
Take time to look up — the qibla iwan on the south side has some of the most photographed Qajar tilework in Iran.
