Beit Sitti (Grandmother's House)

Beit Sitti — "grandmother's house" in Arabic — is a cooking school and cultural project run from a converted 1940s villa in Jabal Amman. Three Jordanian sisters opened it in honour of their grandmother, a renowned home cook, and it now runs half-day cooking classes teaching traditional Jordanian dishes: mansaf, makloubeh, knafeh, and regional specialities from different parts of the country.

Classes are open to individuals and small groups and are taught by local cooks and family members. The format is informal — you cook in the actual kitchen of the old house, eat what you make in the dining room, and leave with recipes. It is not a tourist performance but a genuine attempt to preserve and share home cooking traditions that are disappearing as younger Jordanians eat out more. Bookings required; check the schedule in advance.
