King Hussein Park

King Hussein Park in western Amman is the largest urban park in the city — a stretch of landscaped grounds with walking paths, a small lake, a children's funfair, and the Royal Automobile Museum, which houses a collection of vehicles belonging to the late King Hussein I including cars, motorcycles, and military vehicles dating from the 1920s to the 1990s. The museum is better than it sounds: the vehicles are genuinely historic and the collection traces Jordan's 20th-century history through the changing cars on display.

The park itself is popular with Amman families on weekends and gives a sense of the wealthier, more spacious western suburbs. The Royal Automobile Museum is probably the most accessible heritage attraction in west Amman and is worth 90 minutes even without a particular interest in cars.
