Souk Jara is a Friday outdoor market on Rainbow Street that runs from May to October, filling the street with crafts, handmade jewellery, artwork, food stalls and live music every Friday afternoon and evening. It is the city's most visitor-friendly market — not particularly cheap, but pleasant for browsing and eating — and it captures something of the neighbourhood's cosmopolitan character.
The quality of the crafts is variable but the setting is excellent: Rainbow Street closed to traffic, cafes open to the pavement, the early evening air cooling. Come between 5 and 8pm for the liveliest atmosphere. The regular vendors include Palestinian embroidery and jewellery makers, independent designers, and Jordanian food producers selling olive oil, za'atar, and local jams.
