Chin Tsong Palace is a striking hybrid building — part European mansion, part Burmese pagoda — built in the early 20th century by Lim Chin Tsong, a wealthy Chinese-Burmese merchant. The building combines a classical European facade with Burmese decorative elements and a roof that evokes a pagoda's tiered structure.
The interior is largely inaccessible to visitors but the exterior is visible from the street. It represents the cosmopolitan wealth that circulated through Rangoon in the colonial era, when Chinese, Indian, Burmese, and British merchants and officials coexisted (uneasily) in the same city. The building is in disrepair but survives as one of Yangon's more unusual architectural oddities.
