Kandawgyi Lake is a large natural lake in the centre of Yangon, originally developed as a recreational park by the British. The southern end offers the best-known view in the city: the reflection of the Shwedagon Pagoda in the water, particularly at dusk. A wooden walkway stretches across part of the lake to the Karaweik Hall, a concrete royal barge shaped like the mythical bird of the same name.
The surrounding park is a pleasant escape from the downtown heat. Burmese families come here in the evenings and on weekends. The park admission is minimal. For a quieter lake experience, the nearby Inya Lake to the north has a less developed shoreline.
