King Muyeol's Tomb is one of Gyeongju's most historically important royal mounds. Muyeol ruled in the 7th century, when Silla began the process that would lead to the unification of much of the Korean peninsula, and the surviving stele makes this one of the rare Silla tombs identified with certainty.
The site is quieter than Daereungwon, which is part of its charm. You come for the mound, the carved tortoise base of the monument, and the sense of political history behind Gyeongju's grassy tomb landscape.
