Hôtel de Région

Modernist regional council building near the Old Port

The Hôtel de Région is the headquarters of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur regional council, located in the Saint-Just neighbourhood north of the Old Port. Designed by architects Battesti, Biaggi, and Maurin and completed in 1991, the building is a notable example of late-twentieth-century public architecture in Marseille. It was part of a wider effort to revitalize the northern city centre. The stepped terraces and monumental stairways are worth a look if you are interested in modern civic buildings.
