Built in 1653 on the foundations of the old Maison de Ville, Marseille's Hôtel de Ville is a handsome example of the local baroque style, its façade embellished with a coat of arms medallion designed by local sculptor Pierre Puget. It sits right on the Vieux-Port, making it one of the most photographed buildings in the city.
The interior is not open for regular visits, but the exterior and the surrounding quayside are worth a few minutes on any walk through the old harbour.
