Goetheturm

Rebuilt wooden observation tower above Frankfurt's city forest

The Goetheturm is a tall wooden lookout tower on the southern edge of Frankfurt, in the green belt around Sachsenhausen and the city forest. The original 1930s tower was a beloved local landmark; after a fire destroyed it, Frankfurt rebuilt it, keeping the old idea of a simple climb to a wide view.

Come for the contrast with the financial district. From the top, the skyline looks less like a postcard and more like a sudden row of towers rising out of woods and low neighbourhoods. It is a good stop if you are cycling or walking through the Stadtwald and want a break from museums and shopping streets.
