Günter Grass (1927–2015), the author of The Tin Drum and Cat and Mouse and a defining voice of post-war German literature, settled in Behlendorf near Lübeck in 1986 and made the city his base for the rest of his life. The Forum opened in 2002 to display his work as a writer, sculptor, and graphic artist.
The exhibition rotates regularly through his archive of manuscripts, etchings, and the bronze sculptures of fish, eels, and rats that recur as motifs across his books. The bookshop and reading room are open to anyone interested. A serious place for serious readers.
