The row of windmills on the ridge above Little Venice is the most recognisable landmark on the island. Built from the 16th century onward to grind grain for ships on the trade route between Venice and Asia, they fell out of use with industrialisation but remain standing as a photogenic reminder of the island's commercial past. Best seen from the waterfront at sunset.
