The small lake at the centre of town, ringed by colourful nineteenth-century houses, the City Hall, and the National Gallery. It is essentially Reykjavik's village pond — locals come to feed the ducks, swans, and Arctic terns, and in cold winters the city floods part of it for ice skating.
A walk around takes about twenty minutes and is the most scenic stretch in the centre.
