Mergellina

The waterfront neighbourhood at the western end of the bay, where the Villa Comunale park meets the small fishing harbour and ferry terminal. Mergellina is where Neapolitans go to eat gelato on summer evenings, watch the ferries depart for the islands, and sit along the lungomare — the long seafront promenade that stretches east toward Castel dell'Ovo.

The neighbourhood has several good restaurants and cafes facing the harbour, and the fish market at the port sells the morning's catch. The funicular connects Mergellina to the Vomero hill above. Ferries to Procida and some services to Ischia depart from Mergellina rather than the main Molo Beverello — check when booking island transport.
