Spaccanapoli

Ancient street that cuts straight through the heart of Naples

Admission Free

The arrow-straight ancient Roman decumanus that "splits Naples" (spacca = to split) — running from Piazza Gesù Nuovo through the historic centro storico. Officially several streets with different names (Via Benedetto Croce, Via San Biagio dei Librai), it is one of the most continuously inhabited urban streets in the world. Lined with baroque churches, artisan workshops, street food vendors, and caffès.

Walk it from west to east in the morning: Piazza Gesù Nuovo, the Santa Chiara cloister, Cappella Sansevero, Piazza San Domenico Maggiore. Via San Gregorio Armeno (the presepi street) branches off to the north. Dense and chaotic at all hours — embrace it.
