San Domenico Maggiore is one of the great churches of Naples, standing near the heart of the historic centre. The Gothic church was founded in the 13th century and incorporates an older 10th-century church on the same site.
The adjoining monastery was an important intellectual centre: Thomas Aquinas taught theology here, and Giordano Bruno also lived in the complex. Inside, the sacristy is especially notable for the coffins of Aragonese royalty, including King Ferdinand I.
