Santa Chiara is one of the great pauses in Naples' historic centre: a Gothic church and monastic complex hidden just off Spaccanapoli. The church is sober by Neapolitan standards, but the cloister is the prize, lined with eighteenth-century majolica tiles painted in bright rural and maritime scenes.
Come for contrast. Outside, Naples is noise, scooters, churches, and street food; inside the cloister, citrus trees and tiled benches make the city feel briefly ordered and still. The complex also carries Angevin royal history, so it rewards both a quick wander and a more deliberate visit.
