Parco dell'Acquasola

Genoa's oldest public garden, on a hilltop overlooking the city

The Acquasola is Genoa's oldest public park, laid out in the 19th century on a natural terrace above the old city. It is a local park rather than a tourist destination — families, students from the nearby university, and elderly Genoese on benches — which is precisely what makes it pleasant. The views from the garden walls down over the city and towards the port are good.

The park is a 10-minute walk from De Ferrari through the 19th-century streets, an easy extension to a day spent in the galleries and palaces nearby. The bandstand at the centre is a period piece; occasionally used for concerts in summer.
