The Contemporary Arts Pavilion is a compact exhibition space near the Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli. Its programme changes, but the focus is modern and contemporary art rather than a permanent collection.
The building also carries a darker piece of recent history: it was destroyed by a Mafia bomb in 1993 and later rebuilt, a reminder that Milan's polished cultural scene has not always been detached from Italy's harder politics.
