Electric Ladyland

The world's only museum of fluorescent art, crammed into a basement on the Tweede Leliedwarsstraat in the Jordaan. This is a one-man operation — artist Nick Padalino has spent decades collecting fluorescent minerals, paints, and artworks, and he guides visitors through the darkened rooms himself, switching UV lights on and off to reveal hidden colours in rocks, art, and everyday objects.

The experience is part science lesson, part art show, part eccentric performance. Padalino's enthusiasm is infectious and his knowledge of fluorescence is genuinely deep. The collection includes minerals that glow in colours invisible under normal light, psychedelic artworks, and a "participatory art environment" where visitors can create their own fluorescent effects. Tiny, weird, and wonderful — the kind of place that could only exist in Amsterdam. Book ahead, as the space only holds a handful of people at a time.
