Micropia

The world's first zoo for microbes, right next to Artis Zoo. Micropia makes the invisible visible: bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microorganisms are presented through live cultures, microscopes, and interactive displays. You can see the microbes living on your own body, watch fungi decompose matter in real time, and learn why most microorganisms are not just harmless but essential.

The museum is compact — you can see everything in about an hour — but the design is clever and the content genuinely surprising. A body scanner at the entrance shows you the microbes hitching a ride on your skin. Good for curious adults and older children alike.
