The Esnoga, or Portuguese Synagogue, is one of Amsterdam's great 17th-century religious buildings. Built by the city's Sephardic Jewish community, its austere exterior opens into a vast candle-lit sanctuary that still feels close to its original form. It pairs naturally with the nearby Jewish cultural sites around Waterlooplein.
