A long sandy beach on the eastern edge of the city centre, five minutes' walk from the cathedral. Unusual for a Norwegian city: actual sand, gentle gradient, lifeguards in summer, and a row of cafes and restaurants behind. The water is rarely warm but warm enough on a July afternoon to swim properly, and the city's residents come down in numbers as soon as the weather allows.
The Aquarama complex at the back of the beach has indoor pools, a spa and a climbing wall — useful on a wet day.
