The main pedestrian street through the Kvadraturen, running north-south from the cathedral to the harbour. Most of the city's shops, cafes and small bars open onto it; on a warm summer afternoon the terraces and tables along its length are the social heart of Kristiansand. The architecture is mostly late-nineteenth century, the planning is the original Renaissance grid of 1641.
Worth walking end-to-end at least once, ideally early in the evening when the light catches the painted house fronts on either side.
