Prison Tower and Torture Chamber

The Prison Tower and Torture Chamber stand beside the Golden Gate at the western end of Gdansk's Royal Way. The brick complex was part of the medieval city defences before it became a prison and place of punishment.

Today the building is most useful as a quick historic stop between the gate and Dluga Street. In summer, the tower viewing platform opens for city-centre views, and the complex has housed the Amber Museum, linking the building to one of Gdansk's best-known crafts.
