Hull City Hall opened in 1909 in a grand Edwardian baroque style — domed corner pavilions, columns, and a long, balconied main hall. It was built to host concerts and civic events at the height of Hull's confidence, and it survived the wartime bombing of the surrounding streets remarkably well. The Forster Concert Organ inside is one of the largest in Britain.
The City Hall still hosts classical concerts, organ recitals, and rock and pop shows for medium-sized acts that do not need the Connexin Live arena. The main hall is more impressive from the inside than out — try to time a visit to coincide with a public event. The cafe on the ground floor is open during the day.
