Sammy's Point

The wedge of land where the River Hull meets the Humber, now occupied by The Deep

Sammy's Point is the wedge of land at the very confluence of the River Hull and the Humber estuary — named after Samuelson, a 19th-century shipbuilder whose yard once occupied the site. For most of the 20th century the spit was derelict; The Deep aquarium opened here in 2002 and now anchors the wider regeneration of the east bank.

The pier that runs out from the point gives the best long view down the Humber. Walk to the very tip for the sense of standing where the rivers join, then turn around and look back at The Deep and the Old Town skyline. The point is busy with cyclists and dog walkers on weekends.
