Rivelin Rocks is one of the gritstone edges that make Sheffield unusually good for outdoor-minded city breaks. The crag is set above the Rivelin Valley, close enough to the city for a short outing but already feeling like the edge of the Peak District.
Climbers come for the routes, while non-climbers can use the area as a woodland and viewpoint walk. Wear suitable shoes and treat the edge seriously in wet or windy weather; the appeal is precisely that this is real gritstone rather than a manicured city park.
