Sheffield's main civic museum, reopened in 2006 after a major refit, with collections covering local history, archaeology, world cultures, and natural history. The Sheffield Life and Times gallery is the strongest — Bronze Age finds from Stanage Edge, a reconstructed 1950s steel-worker's kitchen, contemporary objects donated by Sheffield residents.
The museum sits in Weston Park, between the University of Sheffield and the Children's Hospital. Free entry, open daily. Allow a couple of hours; combine with a walk through the park and a coffee on Glossop Road.
