Forsyth Park anchors the southern end of Savannah's historic district — a broad, shaded 30-acre park that locals treat as an outdoor living room. The centrepiece is the ornate white cast-iron fountain, installed in 1858 and immediately recognisable as Savannah's signature image. Live oaks border the paths, their branches spread wide and draped in Spanish moss.
On weekend mornings the park fills with farmers' market stalls along the outer paths. On any other morning you'll find joggers, dog walkers, and families spread across the grass under the trees. It's one of the few truly public spaces in the city that doesn't feel overrun by tourism.
The park is especially good at dusk, when the light filters through the canopy and the heat of the day breaks. Walk the perimeter and you'll pass some of the finest townhouse facades in the city.
