Greene Square is one of Savannah's quieter historic squares, laid out in 1799 and named for Revolutionary War general Nathanael Greene. Its interest is less in a single monument than in the surrounding streetscape, where modest historic houses and shade trees show the city at a slower pace than the better-known squares farther west.
