Whitefield Square

Whitefield Square is one of Savannah's quieter historic squares, laid out in 1851 and named for George Whitefield, the preacher connected with the Bethesda orphanage. It sits away from the busiest tourist circuit, which makes it a good place to slow down and notice the texture of the old city.

The surrounding wooden Victorian houses give the square a different character from the more formal spaces nearer the river. It is not a headline sight, but it rewards anyone walking Savannah's grid rather than just ticking off the famous stops.
