Cafe Gourmet El Mirador occupies a corner of the Recoleta terrace and trades almost entirely on its view — and what a view: the entire white city below, the cathedral spire, the hills beyond. At sunset it is one of the best seats in Sucre. The menu is broad rather than ambitious: pastas, salads, sandwiches, coffees, beers, and the house speciality Bomba Vitaminica (a fortified fruit drink with raw egg, malta and dark beer that locals swear lifts altitude lethargy).
Service can be slow when the terrace is full, which is most evenings around six. Come at three or four for a quiet coffee and stay until dusk; bring a sweater because the temperature drops sharply once the sun is down. Address: Pasaje Iturricha 297, Mirador de la Recoleta.
