Condor Cafe on Calle Calvo is a long-running traveller cafe and the front-of-house for Condor Trekkers, a community-run hiking agency that funnels profits into rural projects in the surrounding villages. The food is honest cafe fare — soups, salads, decent sandwiches, vegetarian and vegan options for once — at backpacker-friendly prices, all served in a sunlit room with shelves of secondhand books.
The Wi-Fi is good and the staff are usually trekkers themselves, so this is the natural place to plan a multi-day hike to the Maragua crater or sign up for one of Condor's day excursions to the Mariscala canyon or the Inca trail to Chataquila. Breakfast is served until late morning; the menu of fruit, eggs, and homemade bread is a welcome change from hotel buffets.
